Police investigate shooting of man found in woods

EASTON, Mass. (AP) — Police are investigating the shooting of a man who was found in a wooded area in Easton by boys riding their bikes.

The Bristol District Attorney’s Office said Easton police received a 911 call Tuesday afternoon from a woman who said her young sons came upon a man suffering from gunshot wounds about 25 yards into the woods.

The man has been identified as 35-year-old Daniel Smith, a former Easton resident who now lives in Florida. He remains in critical condition at a Boston hospital Wednesday.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in finding a vehicle believed to be connected to the case. Anyone who has seen a red 2016 Mazda 3 sedan with Florida license plate tag number 372QQK is asked to call Easton police or Massachusetts state police.
