WEST HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — Police in Connecticut say they’re investigating after a dog was set on fire and killed in the parking lot of a West Haven beach.

Authorities were called to Sandy Point Beach last Friday morning after someone reported an uncontained fire.

Firefighters put out the flames and discovered that what had been burning was a small dog, possibly a young miniature Schnauzer with cropped ears and a cropped tail.

Police say investigators determined the dog had been set aflame in the lot, possibly after being doused with an accelerant.

Police have not identified any suspects.

They are looking for any witnesses who may have seen something suspicious in the area between 10 p.m. on July 4 and 1 a.m. the following morning.
