NASHUA, N.H (WHDH) - Police are investigating after rocks were thrown through a window at a mosque in Nashua, New Hampshire.

Worshippers said someone hurled rocks at the window of the Islamic Center of Greater Nashua at around 8 p.m. Sunday, with one of the rocks smashing the window. People were gathering for prayer when the rocks were thrown and worshippers said one of the rocks nearly hit someone inside.

Mosque President Muhammad Akbar said he believes the mosque was targeted because it was the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks.

“It’s unnerving and heartwrenching and devastating for the fact that we pray here every day, five times a day. And if it happens, then people may be afraid to come here at night,” said Akbar.

Police said they are collecting surveillance footage from businesses in the area in an effort to track down the vandals.
