PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A registered sex offender who pleaded guilty to possessing child pornography and to sending sexually explicit text messages and images to a 14-year-old girl has been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

Federal prosecutors in Rhode Island announced Monday said 48-year-old Michael Llorca, of Providence, was arrested in January 2018 after police determined he had downloaded files of child pornography in October and November 2017.

The investigation also determined that in November 2017, he communicated in a sexual manner through a social media app with a 14-year-old girl and also sent her explicit photographs.

Llorca was convicted of rape in Massachusetts in 1997 and ordered to register as a sex offender.

He pleaded guilty in March.
