PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A man who robbed a Rhode Island bank on Valentine’s Day last year has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison.
Federal prosecutors say 35-year-old Efrain Delacruz was also sentenced Wednesday to three years of probation for the Feb. 14, 2017 robbery at a Santander bank branch in Providence. He pleaded guilty in June.
Authorities say Delacruz handed a teller a note that said “give me all the money. No dye packs, no fifties and no hundreds.”
He dropped half the money as he left, then fled in a vehicle, leading police on a six-mile, high-speed chase in which he struck at least seven other vehicles before getting cornered.
Police found more than $3,500 of the stolen funds in Delacruz’s vehicle.
