BUCYRUS, Ohio (AP) — An Ohio county prosecutor says a 13-year-old boy fed a strict vegan diet of fruit and nuts by his parents and weighing just 65 pounds resembled a concentration camp survivor when he fled his family’s home last month.

The boy’s father and adopted mother, 35-year-old John Miller and 36-year-old Katrina Miller, of Crestline, pleaded not guilty Monday to kidnapping, felonious assault and child endangerment charges in central Ohio’s Crawford County.

Prosecutor Matt Crall says the teen escaped Aug. 24 and made his way to the home of a relative who called police. The Millers were arrested that day.

Crall says the severely malnourished teen was taken to a Columbus hospital where he’s expected to remain for several more weeks.

Messages left with the couple’s attorneys seeking comment were not returned.
