WESTPORT, Conn. (AP) — Elementary school age students hurt in a school bus crash in Connecticut early Friday suffered minor injuries but did not require hospitalization, police said.

The bus veered off the roadway in Westport at about 8:15 a.m., striking a traffic sign, a stone wall and large tree, causing significant front end damage, Lt. Anthony Prezioso said in a statement. No other vehicles were involved.

The driver had to be extricated from the bus and was taken to the hospital with injuries not considered life threatening.

The students were headed to Kings Highway Elementary School. Police did not say how many students were on the bus.

Police coordinated with school officials to notify parents.

The crash is under investigation.
