MANCHESTER, N.H. (WHDH) - A barricaded man who fired multiple gunshots during an hourslong standoff in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Wednesday has been found dead, authorities said.

U.S. Marshals were attempting to serve a warrant at a home on Union Street around 7:50 a.m. when at least three shots were fired out of the house upon their arrival, according to Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg. Five additional shots were heard a short while later but officers did not return fire.

Manchester police responded to assist, along with SWAT personnel who deployed a Bearcat. A perimeter was set up, surrounding roads were shut down, and crisis negotiators spent more than eight hours attempting to make contact with the man.

Law enforcement officials later deployed a drone, entered the home, and found the man dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to Aldenberg.

“They were able to get in and confirm what we thought and what we believed,” Aldenberg told reporters.

Neighborhood residents were asked to shelter in place throughout the duration of the standoff.

No additional information was immediately released.

The incident remains under investigation.
