BIDDEFORD, Maine (AP) — Maine police say a pickup truck drove onto the sidewalk and struck two bicyclists, critically injuring a man and a toddler riding in an attached bicycle seat.

The crash happened early Friday night in Biddeford on Route 1.

Police say 51-year-old Saco resident Jamerico Elliott and a 15-month-old boy were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland in critical condition.

Another bicyclist, 30-year-old Melodie Brennan, was also hit. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Police say the bicyclists were struck by a small truck driven by a 56-year-old Kennebunkport man.

After hitting the bicyclists, the truck struck a parked car, sending both vehicles into a nearby home. The force of the crash forced a granite foundation block into the residence.

There was no immediate word on any charges.
