BEVERLY HILLS, Fla. (NBC) — A water main break created a sink hole so large that a car completely submerged.

The driver, Matt Jacques, thought it was a big puddle, but it quickly became a problem.

“I tried to back up and it would, it just started sucking me in a little bit,” said Jacques.

He said he saw the standing water but didn’t think he’d have any trouble making it through; he was wrong.

“Water started coming up through the bottom of my car…” said Jacques.

If it weren’t for his quick thinking, he would have been trapped inside.

“I just out the side and pretty much that was it,” he said.

Deputies, road crews and fire rescue were all called to the scene, but there was little they could do.

Jacques said by the time he realized what was going, it was too late.

Workers eventually managed to pull the car out, however, he likely won’t be driving the car any time soon.

Crews have closed the road and warned motorists to stay away from the area.
