Winter’s here and the party’s just getting started. OK, maybe it’s just Solar Winter (shortest days of the year: Nov-Jan), but what’s missing? Snowpack, of course. But don’t tell that to the temperatures. Undaunted by bare ground, they fell short of freezing in a few spots today – sans Eastern Mass. which hit the mid 30s with ample sun.

With such a chilly day, you’d be right to expect the night to be extra cold. However, clouds are on the move across the Northeast and they promise to temper the chill overnight. Oddly, the coldest readings will be in the evening hours with some push back in the wee hours.

Most wouldn’t consider tomorrow “milder” but when you’re going from 30s to 40s, it seems to fit. (I’ll save the “warmup” terminology for the weekend.) Winds will be brisk, so there will be a wind chill factor, thus detracting from my attempt to spin the “mild day”.

Pattern is on the move again. Yes, next storm promises rain again, but overall, I think we’re booting out the REAL cold through at least Thanksgiving Weekend. Sure, it may slump back down again around the big day, but that particular weekend could see another rain storm.

That should banish thoughts of the a cold takeover here in New England…until next month and the arrival of meteorological winter.
