Boston Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney announced Saturday that the club has recalled goaltender Jeremy Smith from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis. Smith is expected to join the team for their regular season finale vs. Ottawa today.
Smith has played in 17 games in 2015-16 with Providence, compiling a 10-5-1 record, 2.15 goals against average and .929 save percentage. Last season, the 26-year-old netminder played in 39 games for Providence with 22 wins, a 2.05 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. The 6’0”, 177-pound goaltender also ranked fourth in the AHL in goals against average and third in save percentage.
Smith has appeared in 23 games in 2015-16 with the Iowa Wild of the AHL, producing a 5-14-3 record, 2.94 goals against average and .911 save percentage. In 40 games combined with both Providence and Iowa this season, he ranks 11th in the AHL with a .918 save percentage.
The Detroit, Michigan native was originally drafted by Nashville in the second round (54th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He signed with Boston as a free agent on July 2, 2014.
