BOSTON (AP) — The Governor’s Council is set to hear from a third judge tapped by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker to serve on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court after the council unanimously confirmed two other nominees.
The council plans a confirmation hearing at the Statehouse on Wednesday for Kimberly Budd, with a vote likely the following week.
A one-time federal prosecutor and daughter of former U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts Wayne Budd, she was appointed by former Democratic Gov. Deval Patrick to the Superior Court in 2010.
Baker’s nominations of Superior Court Judges Frank Gaziano and David Lowy were previously confirmed by the eight-member elected council.
The retirements this summer of SJC justices Robert Cordy, Fernande Duffly and Francis Spina provided the first-term governor with a unique opportunity to reshape the high court.
