ABINGTON, MASS. (WHDH) - An elderly man was killed Tuesday night when an MBTA Commuter Rail train collided with his pickup truck in Abington, Transit police officials said.

Authorities responded around 8:20 p.m. to corner of Railroad and North streets for a report of crash involving a car and a Kingston-Plymouth Commuter Rail train.

Officials said the driver, a 78-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene. The man’s identity is not being released at this time.

Ten passengers were said to be on the train when it struck the man’s truck. No other injuries were reported.

Video from the scene showed a truck that had been torn to pieces.

Witnesses told 7News that the crash shook their homes and businesses.

“The entire building just shook. It was a massive, massive noise,” Joshua Trainer said. “Cars that were parked nearby had their windows blown out.”

Remaining trains on the line Tuesday night were cancelled.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office is assisting with an investigation. Officials said foul play is not suspected.
