(NBC) — A stolen vehicle pursuit that began in South Los Angeles ended in a violent crash late Sunday night.
The police chase started at around 8 on Sunday evening.
Officers spotted the vehicle driving at a high rate of speed.
The vehicle was described as a Mercedes-Benz and the driver may have been armed with a handgun, police said.
Aerial footage showed the driver nearly colliding with several vehicles on various surface streets.
The chase spanned several freeways and surface streets, ultimately coming to a violent end when the driver slammed into water-filled crash cushions.
The suspect was taken into custody. It was not immediately clear if anyone was injured in the crash.
