A town finance director has been charged in connection with suspected shoplifting in Salem, New Hampshire. 

Jane Savastana, 48 of Salem, is the finance director for the town of Salem. 

On Feb. 19, Salem police officer responded to Macy’s in the Mall at Rockingham Park, for a reported woman shoplifter in custody of loss prevention personnel. 

Officers said the woman was seen concealing 11 item, totaling $591 and then leaving the store without paying for them. 

The woman was transported to the Salem Police Department and processed on a count of willful concealment- theft. 

She was released on $1,000 bail and will be arraigned on April 4. 

The Salem Police Department will be seeking assistance from outside prosecution to avoid potential conflicts. 

Savastano is currently on administrative leave from her role as finance director.
