BOSTON (WHDH) - The MBTA announced that Symphony Station on the Green Line E Branch will be closed for nearly three years beginning in June to make major accesbility upgrades to the station.

The MBTA said they will be adding four new accessible elevators, raised platforms for easier boarding, accessible bathrooms, improved wayfinding and lighting, and other upgraded safety features to the station.

Green Line trains will bypass the station in both directions while construction is ongoing, the MBTA said. Regular Green Line service to all other E branch stations will continue as normal during that time.

Commuters who typically depart from or arrive at Symphony can do so at Northeastern University or Prudential, or consider traveling on the Orange Line at Massachusetts Avenue, the MBTA said.

It said riders may also use the Route 39 bus, which operates parallel to the E branch in both directions along Huntington Avenue.

Construction will begin on Saturday, June 6, 2026, and the station will remain closed until summer 2029.

The MBTA is inviting the public to learn more about the project and upcoming closure at a hybrid meeting on Monday, May 18 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. within the Community Room at Symphony Towers, 333 Massachusetts Avenue, Boston, MA. Members of the public who would like to attend virtually may register in advance here

The MBTA says project staff will be available to listen to any comments and answer questions.
