I got an umbrella for my birthday from my wonderful husband, and I can’t remember when I have ever been more excited about such a practical gift. It’s a good thing we had our umbrellas handy today! Most areas picked up around 0.50″ of rain before 7pm, with more on the way through the evening.
It looks like the heaviest rain is headed in our direction for the late evening hours; mainly into SE Mass., the Cape and the islands. Around an inch of rain is still expected in those areas, and that’s on top of what we’ve already picked up. Luckily (for my umbrella especially) we haven’t had any strong winds with this wet weather. Before all of this wet weather shuts off in the wee hours of tomorrow morning, some of it could be a wintry mix or a few snowflakes. Colder air is working in behind all of this precip, and the two are catching up with one another to our NW. It could make for slick spots late tonight and into early tomorrow morning.
More sunshine is in store for Sunday (appropriately), but some of us could be wishing for weather like today instead. It will be much colder (in the mid to upper 30s) and very windy. Winds will be out of the north at 15-25 mph, with gusts up to 30-50 mph. This will take wind chill readings into the 20s. Tomorrow we can retire the umbrellas and “irrigatin’ boots,” but we’ll definitely want to bundle up. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Cape and islands, from 1:00 am Sunday through 1:00 am Monday.
The winds die down on Monday and the sunshine sticks around, but the cold has taken hold. Lows will be in the teens Monday morning, and highs will barely get above the freezing mark (if at all).
For Tuesday/Wednesday things get messy again. A storm system will form to our south and push in more rain. The good news? Temps are topping out in the mid to upper 40s for this storm, which means we’re likely looking at mostly rain. The bad news?? It’s a much more intense test for my new birthday umbrella, because when we say rain we really mean it! Amounts could be between 2-3″! Plus, the wind is back… so we’ll see if my husband’s first online-shopping experience (for my umbrella) went as well as he thinks… He says, “I looked at all of the reviews!” We’ll see… We’ll just wait and see. :c)
Now, I just did a whole lot of blogging about rain… tonight’s rain, Tuesday’s rain, Wednesday’s rain… “Bri, seriously. It’s December in New England. No snow?” We can go there if you want to: There could be some snow, and/or wintry mix with this storm. It looks like our best chances for that will be, again to the NW, and also very early in the morning on Wednesday and Thursday (if temps are cold enough). But for now, the big headlines with this week’s storms are “Wet” and “Windy.”
Enjoy your weekend!
