NORWALK, Conn. (WHDH) – A recent graduate who is headed to Harvard University in the fall revealed during her commencement address that she is an undocumented immigrant.
Laura Veira graduated from Brien McMahon High School in Norwalk, Connnecticut and was her class valedictorian. She said the support she received during her commencement address was unexpected.
“I was surprised by the immediate reaction because everyone was cheering,” said Veira. “It made me more confident in continuing my speech, knowing that I had support.
Veira said she is no longer ashamed of her immigration status and is excited to go Harvard in the fall.
