Missy Franklin, 2012 gold medalist and world record holder in the 200m backstroke, did not advance out of Thursday’s semifinals into the final; instead, she finished in 14th place overall with her time of two minutes, 9.74 seconds. It marked her final race of the Rio Olympics.

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu, who owns three Rio gold medals already, clocked 2:06.03 to be the top qualifier into the final. The U.S.’ Maya DiRado, who owns an Olympic medal of every color from the Rio Games, advanced in third place.
