HOLYOKE, MASS. (WHDH) - A local elementary school will not give out homework this year.

This is the latest effort to try and help improve conditions in the chronically under-performing district.

The principal of Kelly Elementary School decided she wanted to implement the plan because she wants students to focus on extra curricular activities, dinner and time spent with family.

To make up for the lack of homework, students will attend school for an extra two hours per day.

The principal said the new curriculum will address the chronically low performance.

The school is for kindergarten through eighth grade students.
