AUBURN, Maine (AP) — A Maine man has pleaded guilty in the hit-and-run killing of his pregnant former girlfriend.

Evaristo De Deus (deh-DAY-us) pleaded guilty to murder Friday in Androscoggin County Superior Court. The Sun Journal reported that he’s expected to be sentenced in December, when prosecutors will argue for a 45-year prison sentence. He also faces possible deportation.

Police say the Lewiston man intentionally struck Laudrinha Kubeloso (Koo-buh-LEH’-so) from behind with an SUV as she walked home from an adult education class. Authorities captured him in New York 10 minutes before his flight was due to depart JFK airport for Haiti.

Police say auto parts found at the scene matched make, model and color of the defendant’s damaged SUV, which was later found abandoned.
