PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Police say a man and a child were injured when someone opened fire on the car in which they were sitting in Providence.

Authorities say the victims as well as a woman were sitting in a car on June Street at about 5 p.m. Tuesday when someone opened fire on them.

The man was struck multiple times and taken to the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Police say the child was also hurt, likely by shattered glass, and was taken to Hasbro Children’s Hospital for treatment. The woman was not hurt.

Police did not release names or ages, but a neighbor tells WJAR-TV that the child was a 4-year-old girl.

No arrests have been announced.
