MATTAPAN, Mass. (WHDH) — A man was shot and killed outside a Mattapan barbershop Tuesday while his young son was inside and now police are looking for the suspect.

The shooting happened at the Hair It Is barbershop on Blue Hills Avenue. Marcus Hall, 31, was outside while his 4-year-old son was getting a haircut inside. Police said the gunman took Hall behind the barbershop, where he shot him and then took off. Shiaka McIntosh, the boy’s mother, said her son saw the shooting happen.

“Some coward took someone’s life while he was with his son,” said McIntosh.

Police believe Hall was targeted but the motive is unclear. Friends and family lit candles and prayed outside the barbershop Tuesday as they remembered a man they said was deeply against violence.

“This is ridiculous. My son is never going to see his father again,” said McIntosh. “I don’t know how to ask a 4-year-old, ‘Did you see Daddy die? Did you see Daddy get shot?’ I don’t know how to process that.”
