Boston Public Schools announced on Thursday that they will be closed on Friday following a winter storm warning from the National Weather Service.
The warning is in effect from 1 a.m. Friday through the afternoon for much of Massachusetts.
Affected areas include Middlesex, Essex, Norfolk, Worcester, Franklin and Plymouth counties.
Bristol County in Rhode Island will also be affected.

All after-school activities for Boston Public Schools have been canceled as well for Friday.
Boston Centers for Youth and Families will have all facilities open from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Children ages 7 and older can be dropped off upon completion of a short intake form.

Since a snow emergency has not been declared, there should be no space savers on the streets, the Boston mayor’s office said Thursday.
According to the NWS, significant snowfall is expected, with possible accumulations from four to seven inches.

In addition, a winter storm watch is also in effect for southeastern Massachusetts, including Barnstable, Dukes, Plymouth and Bristol counties.
Boston Public Works will have 500 trucks pre treating roads by 6 am.
