WESTMINSTER, Colo. (AP) — Colorado authorities were searching Thursday for a person suspected of shooting two adults and two children in a parking lot behind a dentist’s office, police said.
Westminster Police Department spokeswoman Cheri Spottke said she had no information on the condition of the injured people.
Spottke said it was not immediately clear what led to the shooting just after 3 p.m. Officers who arrived in response to calls reporting gunshots found the four victims outside, she said.
She said they were taken to hospitals after police arrived at the Cedarwood Square Office Complex, which is located about 14 miles (22.53 kilometers) northwest of Denver.
Police did not immediately release a description of a suspect. Spottke said officers were interviewing people who were inside or near the business complex at the time of the shooting.
“A lot of witnesses to talk to and get information,” Spottke said. “Obviously, they’re upset. So that’s why it’s taken us a bit to get information out as far as a possible vehicle of interest.”
Spottke said a black four-door Toyota was seen leaving the area. Police did not identify suspects.
Video footage at the scene showed police cars and officers on foot surrounding the complex that holds several dental offices, using yellow tape to block access to the area and placing evidence markers around the area.
A road next to the complex was closed to traffic and police also closed several lanes of another major road nearby.
