NEWBURY, MASS. (WHDH) - Crews battled a large house fire on Plum Island Saturday.

The fire burned on 20th Street just before 1 p.m.

A Newbury fire captain who lives nearby saw flames and alerted the fire department.

Crews from Groveland, Georgetown, West Newbury, Amesbury and Ispwich were on scene.

One firefighter was evaluated for heat exhaustion.

No other injuries were reported.

Roads in the area were closed down as crews knocked down the fire.

The fire was knocked down around 3 p.m.

The home was destroyed by the fire, along with several cars in the area.

Two other adjacent buildings sustained heat damage, but were spared from major damage.

Firefighters will remain on scene through the evening.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
