ROSLINDALE, MA (WHDH) — Firefighters battled a fire at a building in Roslindale.

Officials said the large fire broke out on Walter Street just after midnight Sunday.

“My mom saw something on the wall and my dad looked out the window and said, ‘What the heck?’” said Caleb Bess, a neighbor.

Firefighters put out the flame and said the fire caused more than $700,000 worth of damage.

“The whole front of the building was engulfed in flames from the ground to the roof,” said Steve MacDonald, from Boston Fire.

Fire investigators said they believe that the fire started on the front porch—something ignited a planter and the flames spread from there.

Officials said everyone made it out of the house safely.

One firefighter was treated for minor injuries.
