New Hampshire state police had to shut down part of I-89 northbound due to several car accidents Friday night.

According to police, a number of accidents occurred between Exit 15 and Exit 17, causing the area to be shut down around 10 p.m.

Police said a snow squall and freezing temperatures caused the road to be extremely hazardous, and many drivers lost control of their cars.

One of the vehicles involved was an ambulance, which was struck by another car. There were minor injuries reported.

A number of drivers were issued summonses for speeding.

The road surfaces were treated by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation and the section of highway was eventually re-opened.
