DOVER, Mass. (WHDH) — Dover Police are investigating a serious crash that left the driver seriously injured and impacted Monday morning’s commute.

Police responded to the crash on Hartford Street just before 3:45 a.m. on Monday.

Officials found a car on fire with significant damage resting upside down against a utility pole. The driver was trapped inside when police arrived.

The 22-year-old driver from Bellingham was conscious and alert while he was treated. He was transported by MedFlight to Mass General Hospital with serious injuries.

The initial investigation found that the vehicle was traveling westbound at a high speed, exited the travel lane to the left, crossed over the eastbound lane off the road and crashed into the pole.

The crash remains under investigation.

Hartford Street was shut down for several hours on Monday morning.
