TOWNSEND, MASS. (WHDH) - A man at the center of a standoff in Townsend was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation after the incident came to an end Monday.
Police said the 36-year-old man barricaded himself inside an apartment at the Pine Ridge Apartment Complex. Police officers were called the scene, along with SWAT team members and armored vehicles.
Ashley Wareing and Derek Richard, who live at the complex, said their neighbor was acting strange early Monday morning. As they were leaving for work, they noticed he was walking around the hallway and asking about someone named Jeff Richard and said the man appeared to be very angry.
Police said the man was taken out of the building on a stretcher and put in an ambulance. Richard said it was the same man he encountered in the hallway.
The man was taken to the hospital for a mental evaluation.
