NEWTOWN, Conn. (AP) — Police say two young men died when the SUV they were in plunged into a ravine.

Newtown police say the victims’ SUV went off the westbound shoulder of Route 34 into a 100-foot deep, heavily wooded ravine at about 2 a.m. Sunday.

Police identified the victims as 20-year-old Elliot Gregory and 19-year-old Philip Zuvanich, both of Newtown. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was in the vehicle. Police did not say who was the driver and who was the passenger.

The medical examiner’s office is investigating the causes of death.

Police are also asking witnesses to the crash to contact them.
