Police identify teenage victim of fatal Mashpee crash

Mashpee Police have identified the victim of Tuesday night’s fatal crash as 13-year-old Jeremiah Smith of Mashpee.

Police also identified the driver of the vehicle that struck Smith as Constantinos Mitrokostas, 55, also of Mashpee.

Smith was staying with foster parents in Mashpee the past few weeks.

Chief Scott Carline says the boy was struck at about 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A man who lives in the neighborhood says the impact tossed the boy into the woods.

Initially, there was a call for Medflight, but he was taken to Cape Cod Hospital in Barnstable where he died.

Police say Mitrokostas remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.

Mitrokosas’s vehicle, with a dent in the hood and a smashed windshield, was towed from the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
