GREENVILLE, Wisc. (WHDH) — A high-speed chase in Wisconsin came to a quick stop when police officers used a dangerous PIT maneuver to stop the car.

An officer said he spotted a speeding car, who took off when he saw a squad car behind him. The officer said he read the car’s license plates and saw that it was stolen.

Seconds after the officer warned the suspect he was going to “PIT” the car, the suspect slowed down enough. Greenfield Police Capt. Sean Licht said the officers the pursuit intervention technique, or “PIT,” under certain circumstances.

“If the officer can employ this technique safely, he’ll do so,” said Licht. “We look for factors such as time of day, other vehicles around, pedestrian traffic, what have you. In this instance, there was no cars around. It was the perfect opportunity to employ this PIT.”

Four suspects in the car were arrested. Licht said a bag of cocaine and a gun with a laser sight on it were recovered inside.
