BOSTON (WHDH) - Remote learning is changing daily life for students and teachers.

“It’s been a game-changer,” says Boston elementary school teacher Joanne Moreira.
But Joanne says the kids are alright.
“Kids are so resilient, they’re amazing and sometimes we underestimate them,” she says.
Joanne knows what it’s like to be a student. She recently got her Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy. Last year, Joanne started planning a big bash to celebrate her achievement.
“My parents were immigrants from the Cape Verde islands,” she says. “For them, it was so important for me to have this party amongst all my friends and family,” Joanne says.
She found the perfect venue just south of Boston.
“There’s a big golf course,” Joanne says. “There’s a little lake by the side and it’s just a beautiful venue to take pictures.”
She put down a deposit of $8,876 to reserve a date this past spring, but as COVID-19 started to spread, her party plans became problematic.
“As we got maybe two weeks ahead, I was like ‘Ok this is not going to happen,'” she says.
The venue agreed to refund Joanne her deposit. But spring turned to summer and then fall and the money never came.
“It’s been kind of, ‘Oh, I’m sorry, I wasn’t aware that you haven’t received it yet, I’ll get back to you,'” Joanne says of the responses she’s received from the venue.
That’s when she turned to Solve It 7.
We contacted the venue and heard back from the general manager right away. He said Joanne’s name mistakenly ended up on a list of people who were rescheduling their event, not canceling. He promised to contact her.
“Solve It 7 reached out and almost immediately, like within hours, they called me,” says Joanne.
Her check came in the next day. Nearly 9-thousand dollars back in the bank, ending this teacher’s trouble.
“I am smiling!” Joanne says under her mask, during a recent interview outside her home. “Big smile.”
“Thank you so much,” she says. “I really appreciate all of your hard work.”
Joanne says some of the money she received from the refund will go towards holiday presents for her family.
