Two women were injured after being struck by a stray bullet in Worcester Saturday evening.

According to Worcester police, officers responded to a home on Perry Avenue for reports of a shooting incident around 4:45 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found two women suffering from minor injuries as a result of a gunshot.

Police said the two women, who are 52-years-old and 42-years-old, were on the porch of the second floor apartment when a gunshot rang out and struck them.

One woman was hit in the lower leg. The bullet then traveled through her leg and grazed the back of the other woman.

The woman shot in the leg was treated by EMS and taken to a local hospital for treatment. She is expected to make a full recovery. The second woman received a superficial injury and declined medical treatment.

The preliminary investigation showed there were several women on the front porch of the home when several shots rang out. One bullet pierced the wall to the second floor porch and struck the victim in the leg.

Police believe the women were not the intended targets of the shooting.

Investigators are currently working to identify the suspect and to determine a motive for the shooting. Police are asking anyone with information to contact them at (508)799-8651.
