An employee at a Subway sandwich shop in Hooksett, New Hampshire fought a suspect who managed to flee after stealing the restaurant’s cash box.

Police said the Subway’s front door was open when a masked suspect walked in and grabbed the cash box. The employee who had opened the restaurant for breakfast was in the back prepping food. As the suspect tried to escape out a rear door, the employee went after him.

Surveillance video shows the employee wrestling the suspect to the ground as she tried to rip his mask off. The cash box broke open and the suspect grabbed the money and ran off.

"She was pretty traumatized and I feel really bad about this," said Tyler Hamblett, who usually opens the Subway but his coworker was given the responsibility Monday. He said his coworker was not hurt.

Police said the suspect was able to leave the store without his face being revealed and fled in a black sedan with two men inside. Hooksett Police Sgt. James Bradley said police encourage people not to take on suspects, like the Subway employee did.

"We would encourage not to do that. These people are desperate, you don’t know their intentions or what they have on them," said Bradley.
