LOS ANGELES (AP) – A Los Angeles coroner’s official says the death of “Star Trek” actor Anton Yelchin has been ruled an accident.

Coroner’s spokesman Ed Winter says an autopsy performed Sunday determined the 27-year-old actor died of blunt force asphyxia after his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee pinned him between a mailbox and a security pillar in his driveway early Sunday.

Winter says any toxicology results will take months to analyze.

Los Angeles police are investigating Yelchin’s death. Officer Jane Kim says the investigation will look into whether the actor’s vehicle was in gear or in park at the time of the accident.

The Jeep Grand Cherokee in question was already under recall, after hundreds of drivers complained of trouble shifting, and saying their vehicles rolled away.

The company is now adding new warnings and locks so drivers are sure their vehicle is in park.

Chrysler says it is aware of 41 injuries related to the problem.
