We’re getting into the home stretch of the regular season in the 7News fantasy football league, and the standings have tightened considerably.

Aside from front-runner Tim Caputo, who has steamrolled his way to an 8-1 record this season, the standings are close, with everyone having at least 3 wins and nobody else having more than 6.

That means that each week is even more important, and we’re in for an exciting finish.

Week 9 proved to have several interesting finishes. Caputo edged Pete Bouchard, 110-108, a finish that wouldn’t have happened if not for a kicker mishap by Bouchard. Jets kicker Nick Folk turned out to be unavailable, and Bouchard didn’t catch the change in time. Just one field goal would have swung the match.

Elsewhere, Jeremy Reiner scored a big victory to move to 4-4-1 on the year, Alex Corddry earned her fourth win to keep her season afloat, Trey Daerr scored a blowout to stay out of the basement alone, and Joe Amorosino kept pace near the top of the standings.

Week 10 should be a fascinating group of matchups.

Corddry, 4-5, and Reiner, 4-4-1, will face off in search of an all-important fifth win. Kris Anderson and Brandon Gunnoe, each 3-6, need an important fourth win to keep from falling too far behind.

Dan Hausle, at 6-3, will hope to try to rein in the leaders, while Pete Bouchard hopes to return to .500 – this time with a kicker who is actually playing.

Stay tuned. The playoffs are just a few short weeks away.
