TIVERTON, R.I. (WHDH) — Two workers are safe after a crane tipped over on the Sakonnet River Bridge Monday.
The Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority (RITBA) said the crane was being used for bridge inspection. The workers were trapped in a bucket and a cage prevented them from falling out.
Another crane rescued the two workers after about an hour. Rescue boats were waiting in the river below, just in case. Both workers did not appear to be hurt but were taken to the hospital to be checked out.
The entire bridge was shut down while rescue took place. Traffic did not clear up until Monday evening.
RITBA said the incident is now under investigation.
