Not all athletes get their start expecting to reach the Olympics.

Team USA women’s hockey captain Meghan Duggan told 7’s Nancy Chen her start in the sport was almost an accident.

“My parents always joke, but I think they’re actually serious, that they went to sign my brother up and there was a two-for-one deal, so it was easier to watch me out skating on the ice with my older brother instead of running around the rink somewhere where they had to chase me while he was on the ice,” Duggan said.

Team USA finished in second in women’s hockey earning Duggan and the rest of the squad silver medals.
